Dr. Gumussoy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas, where he leads a research program on Closed-Loop AI — bridging control theory, system identification, and machine learning, applied to power systems, smart manufacturing, and edge platforms. He previously spent 7 years at Siemens Research, most recently as Senior Key Expert on Closed-Loop AI in the Autonomous Control and Operations group, leading research on ARPA-E ReNew100 and PICO and filing 8+ patents. He is a Senior Member of IEEE since 2020 and a member of the IFAC Technical Committee on Linear Control Systems since 2022. He served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology (2018–2022) and the IEEE Conference Editorial Board (2018–2022). |
@Siemens Research: Co-architected SCS-Reinforce, a reinforcement learning toolbox inside inside Simcenter Studio, and shaped its ongoing roadmap. Implemented new algorithms for tuning and calibration of ARPA-E power system projects in the intersection of AI and control.
